Music Monday: Face Value

Every Monday leading up to the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, we will be giving you a closer look at the artists set to perform. Take a look at this week’s featured artist: Face Value

face.jpg

Formed in early 2012 in Kingsville, MD, Face Value, originally known as “Out to See,” managed to create their own unique and edgy pop punk / alternative rock sound with influences from bands like Blink 182, All Time Low, and Yellowcard. Their writing style and catchy yet refreshing chord progressions reflect the band’s personal experiences dealing with the hardships of growing up.

Originally formed by frontman/lead guitarist Alec Myers and Jeremiah Douglas (drums/electric triangle), the band witnessed a departure of initial members Kyle Ritter and Garrett Heydt. Soon after, brothers Parker Ross and Grayson Ross joined the band, meshing their unique pop-rock and effect-driven sound with the fundamental raw punk tendencies Alec and Jeremiah gravitated towards. The band released “Growing Up Young” on June 14, 2015 and embarked on their summer tour with good friends, Something More, in late June to help promote its release. The EP is not only fun and refreshing but also shows that the Baltimore pop punk scene still has original and worthwhile music to offer. More recently, Face Value wrapped up their upcoming EP, “Thick As Thieves”, with Baltimore producer/engineer, Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Yellowcard, The Used, etc.), in mid January 2016 and is planning a handful of music videos in conjunction with its release in May.

Currently, the band has released 2 music videos (“Up Late” and “Car Door”) by AHT Productions in Baltimore, MD. They have been invited to play the 2015 Driven Music Conference (Austin, TX), 17th Annual Texas Rock Fest (Austin, TX), 2016 Celebrate Fairfax Festival, and 2016 Launch Music Conference (Lancaster, PA).

Don’t miss Face Value at the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival on the Shock Top Rock Stage at 3:00PM on Saturday, June 11!

Music Monday: Kevin Olson

Every Monday leading up to the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, we will be giving you a closer look at the artists set to perform. Take a look at this week’s featured artist: Kevin Olson

kevin

A recent graduate of Virginia Tech, Kevin Olson began playing his guitar for live audiences in the early fall of 2014, starting with simple street performances. His talent quickly caught the eye of the entertainment team for Virginia Tech Athletics and Olson found his first big gig headlining a halftime show for the Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball team.  Since his performance, he has played at various events and clubs within Blacksburg, and near his hometown of Vienna, VA. Amazed by his unique style of guitar, audiences have often compared his music to that of John Butler and August Rush. A veteran of the Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, Olson is excited to return and share his music with the people of Fairfax County.

His favorite way to #celebrate is to share a meal and drinks with close friends and family.

For more information on Kevin Olson and his upcoming shows, check out his website and see him live at the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival Sunday, June 12th at 4:30PM on the Wegmans Uncorked Stage.

Music Monday: alex&shiloh

Every Monday leading up to the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, we will be giving you a closer look at the artists set to perform. Take a look at this week’s featured artist: alex&shiloh

Combine an acoustic guitar, off-the-chart vocals, a bottomless repertoire of cover songs,  borderline excessive amounts of sibling love, and original compositions for good measure, toss, and you’ve got alex&shiloh.  The singer/songwriter duo has garnered a loyal following at venues on the Eastern Shore from Ocean City, MD through Philadelphia, PA–from bars to festival stages.  They get equal respect for their original music as they do their covers, and loved for the energy they bring and as a generally adorable example of what happens when a brother and sister are friends first, siblings second, and innovative musicians all the time.  Be sure to find their Nashville Recorded record, available both on CD and as a digital download.

For more information about alex&shiloh, visit their website and catch them live at the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival on Saturday June, 11th at 7PM on the Wegmans Uncorked stage!

Music Monday: Crys Matthews

Every Monday leading up to the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, we will be giving you a closer look at the artists set to perform. Check out this week’s featured artist: Crys Matthews.

Crys Matthews blends Americana, folk, jazz, blues, bluegrass and funk into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies and punctuated by honest, original lyrics. Having been compared to everyone from Toshi Reagon to Tracy Chapman to Ruthie Foster, Matthews’ eclectic infusion of genres has won her honorable mentions at the 2013 and 2014 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and extensive radio play from Woman of Substance radio to WTJU-Charlottesville and WMRA-Harrisonburg to KBOO-Portland.

A prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews has found inspiration in her surroundings; from driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains to the compelling and heart-breaking love story of Richard and Mildred Loving. Thoughtful, realistic and emotional, Matthews’ songs speak to the voice of our generation and remind us why music indeed soothes the soul.

Crys Matthews’ favorite way to #celebrate is surrounded by people she loves. Whether it’s a quiet night on the couch with her wife and furbabies, brunch with friends, or a familiy cookout — if there are loved ones near chances are the laughter and joy are near as well.

Check out Crys Matthews live at the 2016 Celebrate Fairfax! Festival on Sunday June, 12th on the Wegmans Uncorked stage!
